What is Great Health?

What is Great Health?

It’s a theme we tend to hear more and more about as we grow older: the importance on maintaining great health, and health as the deciding factor on our happiness and longevity- but how true is it that great health makes us happy?

Truth be known, happiness can’t be attained simply by having a great diet or going for a daily walk- though some people swear by it. In fact, it’s highly possible, that happiness comes from balancing all aspects of life that we deal with. Here’s a very basic break down.

Physical Health.

Most people argue that physical health is the deciding factor of your happiness. It’s true that a state of great health makes for a great standard of self-confidence and a sense of accomplishment in our goals, but what about developing the drive to have physical health- and how is that obtained? We then start to look at emotional health as a driving factor.

Emotional Health.

As we age, our optimum state of physical health naturally decreases. What does not have to decrease, however, is our value on emotional health. Emotional health is not easily broken down but refers to how we find motivation and pleasure in life.

This may come from surrounding yourself with people you care for or a cause you’re passionate about, or simply chasing what you love. This feeds our interest in keeping fit so we can do it as much as we like, and is great for brain health and positive hormone release.

Intellectual Health.

We all know that staying ‘up with it’ is crucial to great health. The brain grows and develops through learning- and the moment we stop learning is the moment our brains become bored.

Do you find yourself getting bored often? Take a free course, visit a museum, join a group that shares your mutual interest, anything to stimulate the positive health benefits associated with keeping intellectually fit. It works!

When considering each aspect of ‘health’ as we know it, a pattern arises and becomes obvious. In many ways, each aspect is reliant on the next as it is on itself to motivate great health. It’s said that starting to acknowledge good health can come from working on any area of life that needs attention. If you struggle to find motivation to exercise daily, perhaps it’s easier to start somewhere else first?

It’s so important to update our ideas on health as we grow older and move into the later stages of life where our health may be easier to lose balance. What are some of the ways you can develop your health? – unsure of why this question is at the end of this paragraph
